the tour
Visit to the caves, overhangs and sandstone country around Basalt Hill and Kulnura. On this off track bush walk we visit side gullies and ridges and experience the diversity of winter flowers and rock formations. On the way we encounter shelters many surveyed by Val Attenbrow and Jo McDonald before the inundation for Mangrove Creek dam. Attenbrow documented hundreds of habitation sites and rock art motifs rendered in white clay, red ochre and charcoal in the archaeology of Upper Mangrove Creek. Enjoy an all day heritage walking adventure exploring the wilder parts of Kulnura with its unique flora and abundant birdlife.
the guide
Mike Breheny has lived in and explored the Mangrove Creek area for over 30 years gaining extensive geographical and botanical knowledge that he loves sharing with others. As an experienced outdoor guide he has led bush walks and run leadership courses in and around the Hawkesbury River and is an active member of Central Coast Birders. Mike is joined by local historian Dr Bernadette Flynn who brings a rich knowledge of the public and social history of the Mangrove Creek catchment area.
